Registration Staff

Responsibilities: Come join the friendly, welcoming people of Registration! As the first faces attendees see when they arrive at the convention, Registration volunteers are an incredibly important part of the Con. Reg Staff must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy helping people. Flexible shifts at con, training provided

Skills needed: Comfortable with money handling, customer service, punctuality and reliability, sitting for long periods of time, using a laptop.

Assistant Innkeeper At-Con

Responsibilities: The Innkeeper team manages the sleeping rooms at the hotels where Arisia has signed a contract. We manage all special requests and reservation changes for attendees. There is a strong customer focus on our team; this is a great place for being able to make connections directly with members and having a positive face on the convention. For these positions we are looking for assistant innkeepers to spend a few hours at the Arisia Innkeeper help desk and answer questions about rooming. Usually this is facilitating basic check-in and other activities.

At-con Guest of Honor Liaisons

Responsibilities: Accompany one of the guests of honor during the convention to make sure they make it to their panels and events in a timely fashion. The at-con guest of honor liaisons will also make sure that the guests of honor get answers to any questions they may have, and look after their incidental needs. At-con liaisons will need to work at least one half-day shift during the con. At-con liaisons will be supported by the GOH liaison and assistant GOH liaison during the con. Good qualities for an at-con liaison: diplomacy, good communication skills, patience, and being well-organized.

General Tech Staff

Responsibilities: Arisia Tech supports the panels, performances, presentations, and media that make up the convention. We build theaters into ballrooms to create performance spaces. We provide sound reinforcement and projection for panels. We run sound, lights, cameras, and backstage work for Arisia events like the Masquerade, and we welcome new people to join us. We are particularly looking for people with theatrical tech and production experience, and/or with AV experience. There are pre-con positions available, as well as at-con.

Events Liaison

Responsibilities: Be the single point of contact for up to six events.

AT CON: Meet with Event Organizers and make sure they arrive and depart on time, get audience headcounts, and get feedback from Organizers after the event.

News Desk Staff

Responsibilities: News Desk Staff members are responsible for creating timely on-topic posts at the request of our convention staff for promoting aspects of the convention to our members and the public. The ideal candidates would be trustworthy and creative communicators who are comfortable working with a small team of people, or working independently and in a timely manner. They have social media savvy and can do basic manipulation of web images, write and edit compelling copy, and maintain a high level of communication with our staff. At con they will be responsible for creating Arisia's at-con newsletter, Clear Ether, which is printed daily, and working alongside a small staff of reporters.

This is a position for someone 18 years of age or older. This position is an at-con position, and reports to the News Desk Lead.

Coat Check Room Staff

Responsibilities: Coordinating intake and outtake of coats and bags for attendees
Keeping Coat Check room organized
Interacting with staff, volunteers, and attendees in a polite and professional manner.

Indie Expo Volunteers

The Indie*Expo is an event at Arisia in Grand Ballroom A, open on Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 4pm. Exhibitors will be showing their art, crafts, and games of various kinds.Responsibilities:

  • Assisting exhibitors with setup and teardown
  • Sitting at an info desk in case people need help
  • Accepting payment for items and handling money (must be 18+)
  • Getting an approximate headcount of attendees
  • Potentially, directing traffic flow if the event gets too over-attended
  • Keeping the indie meeting area reasonably orderly

Physical requirements should be minimal, as the hotel will be taking care of moving all furniture. Exhibitors may request assistance moving equipment, and it's up to volunteers to decide what they are comfortable with. Shifts will be set up prior to con.

Massage Den Staff

Responsibilities: Massage Den is a free service for Arisia staff. This year, we are looking for more massage therapists to help out. Most therapists do 3-5 massages over the course of the weekend. Volunteers get their membership comped and get a staff ribbon, which permits access to Staff Den and Green Room for food. Massages are scheduled between 6 pm - 11 pm Friday and 11 am - 11 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Video Games Assistant Area Head

Responsibilities: This person will assist the Video Games Area Head with the Video Game Room and take direction from the Video Game Area Head. Good customer service skills and organizational ability needed.

Tasks may include

  • Checking Video Game room for correct setup configuration by hotel staff.
  • Assisting Video Game Room vendor representatives from Games Undeground with setup/teardown. and/or hotel check-in as needed.
  • Regular check-ins with Video Game Room Area Head throughout the day/night. Assisting them with various tasks and requests.

Cosplay Repair Staff

Responsibilities: We are looking for MsGuyvers and Jacks- and Janes-of-all-trades to help fix things from broken props to a rip in a piece of cloth to gluing that thingy back on or replacing a missing button. We are a group of people with varying experience; your skills will be appreciated at any level. Some of us volunteer an hour here or there, others like spending hours at our space. We welcome all!

First Aid Staff

Responsibilities: Perform basic First Aid as needed. This is an at-con position. Arisia will reimburse folks for taking the course between now and the con. Red Cross First and and CPR training are needed.

Dealer Load-in & Load-out (Schleppers)

Responsibilities: We’re looking for folks who can help schlep boxes from the Loading Dock to individual dealers tables or booths; carts/dollies will be provided. We need people Thursday afternoon, Friday morning and afternoon, and Monday afternoon.

This part of set up/tear down qualifies for double hours. If you’re a teenager who needs Community Service hours, it may qualify for those as well. Plus you get a fancy ribbon no one else at con will have. You must be able to take direction and be able to load boxes onto and off of carts or dollies.

The Watch At-Door Badge Checkers

Responsibilities: Help with badge checking for various areas of the convention. This positions is for someone friendly and customer service-oriented.

The Watch Badge Checkers for 18+ & 21+ panels

Responsibilities: Checking badges for the 18+ and 21+ panel rooms during the convention. These are time commitments for 1.5 hours for each panel. This positions is for someone friendly and customer service-oriented. This is a position for volunteers 18 years of age or older.

At-Con Hotel Liaison

Responsibilities: Work with hotel staff to ensure the smooth running of the con. For example, managing requests for water refills, temperature changes, or furniture changes. Ideally 8-12 hours over the course of the weekend.

Social Media Staff

Responsibilities: It is the goal of the Arisia communications team to respond to questions across our platforms consistently, honestly, clearly, and quickly but that can be hard! If you think you’d like to help we’d really like to hear from you. This is a year-round position and experience with at least Facebook and Twitter is necessary. There is no age requirement but the ability to communicate in a clear, polite, and effective manner, especially when dealing with sensitive topics, is critical.

Video Room Staff

Responsibilities: Monitoring videos being presented, changing media over between videos, keeping Video Room in working order. Other tasks as assigned by Video Room Manager. We are especially looking for overnight staff but other shifts are available.

Must have experience operating and troubleshooting commercial audio/video equipment, projectors in a public setting. Must have good communication skills. Video Room Staff will be supervised by the Video Room Manager.

Safer Space for Arisians of Color Attendant

Responsibilities: Arisians who consider themselves people of color are needed to tend to the Safer Space for Arisians of Color. This involves picking up the room, calling the hotel to take care of the trash when necessary, and ensuring the rules of the room are respected.

Scavenger Hunt Volunteers

Responsibilities: Hand out materials, explain rules, and receive finished hunts. This is a seated job located next to the main elevators, ideal for people-watching. Only 1 person needed at a time, but pairs are acceptable. Preference for those aged 14+ but younger folks with an older buddy or parent is fine.

Times needed: Saturday and Sunday 10am-7pm
